A couple of recent events for “The Powder of Life”
I was thrilled to take part in two very different events over the past few weeks!
On June 16th, I attended the 2012 Author Extravaganza at the Town Crier Bookstore in Emporia, Kansas. I was one of fifty authors invited to the annual event, and it was my first signing in Kansas for “The Powder of Life.”

I met many terrific people at the event which drew plenty of authors and avid readers from around the area. The Emporia Gazette printed a nice write-up about it, and I was thrilled to be singled out in it! CLICK HERE to read the piece.

The second event for “The Powder of Life” was held on July 1st at the private residence of my good friend Jane Albright, who generously offered to host a book talk, reading, and signing at her historic Hyde Park home in Kansas City, Missouri.

I met a delightful couple, Gregory Foreman and his wife Melodie, who both attended the event and bought books.

After the reading and signing, we were treated to a tour of Jane’s expansive Oz Room, housed on the third floor of her historic home. Good friend Stacey Warner Hatton is seen here perusing the collection.
I believe we stumble on books we were meant to read. And while I’ve just stumbled on Silver Shoes, I come to it not as a casual Wizard of Oz reader/thinker. Before Magurie stormed the scene with Wicked, my book, represented by an agent who was about to retire, was accepted (for submission purposes) by Reagan Books (Harper Collins) two weeks after they had received Wicked. After keeping it for a year they returned it saying they liked it but couldn’t invest time and money in two Oz books.
As a result my book “Dorothy: This Side of the Rainbow” languished but did see the light of day.
Unlike your book, my book is written as a memoir by Dorothy…telling her life story before Oz and after Oz.

Thanks for writing, and I’m so glad you found the blog and “Silver Shoes.” I hope you enjoy reading it.
Timing truly is the “wild card” in our creative journey, isn’t it? We may have everything in place, ready to go to the next big wonderful step, but if the timing is off, it’s completely out of our control. What we can do is keep going. Tell our stories to any and all interested audiences, and keep forging ahead on our chosen paths. I wish you all the success with “Dorothy: This Side of the Rainbow,” and I look forward to reading it myself.
