Reward for the Ruby Slippers hits $250,000!
Over five years after the heist, the search continues in earnest, and the mystery remains unsolved.
These are the very pair of Ruby Slippers that I saw in person at Michael Shaw’s place. The ones that inspired me to write the novel “Silver Shoes.”
A museum benefactor offered the $50,000 on Christmas Eve, said John Kelsch, the museum’s executive director. It brings the total reward for recovery of the missing slippers to a quarter of a million dollars, and Kelsch said the additional incentive could make a difference.

One of the other pairs of slippers sold for $660,000 at an auction at Christie’s in New York 10 years ago, Kelsch said, but the value probably has risen considerably since then. Joseph Maddalena of the Profiles in History auction house recently said they’d be worth between $2 million and $3 million today, Kelsch said.
