The Godfather (1972) — 2 Comments

  1. I concur. That opening scene and the wedding does set up the family part of the mob. It reminds me of a soap opera… following the characters through thick and thin. This was my first viewing. I am not sure if I am eager to see what happens next, but I guess I will find out. 🙂

I watched (and read) Fortunella – an interesting movie. The instruments are so different from the Godfather’s that I had to go back to the wedding to catch the similarities. It was a fun side trip.

    • I haven’t seen Fortunella, but that’s great that you have. It’s a shame the score was deemed ineligible for that reason, but those were/are the rules for “original” score. That iconic theme is the anchor for the score, so I get it. For the sequel, new music was written, and this time he won for it. A beautiful score, too. I love that this was your first viewing of “The Godfather.” There have been so many imitations, homages, and parodies of it since it came out, I wonder if that affected your impression of it. At the time, it was a unique style for the genre.
